Insulation of Skylights to Increase Energy Efficiency and Reduce Condensation.
Problem
The Frost Art Museum needed a way to reduce heat gain through their skylights, while reducing condensation on the glass and reducing glare into the gallery.
Solution
Energy Protect™ insulation coating by Syneffex™ was applied to the exterior of the skylights to increase energy efficiency and reduce glare and condensation. Syneffex™ worked with their industrial contractors to get the opacity to the perfect level for their project.
The Energy Protect™ coating was chosen by Architectural firm HOK to insulate skylights and protect artwork which was being damaged due to harmful UV rays.
Energy Protect™ reduced heat transfer through glass, while also allowing in natural light, which was an important museum design element, while protecting the artwork from harmful UV rays.
“Art conservation researchers over the past 40 years have studied the sensitivity of artworks to light. In Weymouth’s designs, a crucial element is using materials and coatings that block out both ultraviolet rays and heat.”

Standout Results!
Energy Protect™ thermal insulation coating insulated the art museum skylights, while still allowing in approximately 90% to 92% of the visible light and reducing harmful UV rays by about 80%, to keep the artwork safe from damage.
